Systemic Behaviour and Migration -What happens systemically when we move?

Updated: Dec 19, 2020

Moving in our lives comes for many reasons. Most of the time, it's a push towards growth. Sometimes we welcome it, sometimes we dread it, but one thing is for sure it takes us out of our comfort zone whether we like it or not.

In times of COVID, many people are moving for one reason or another. We move to be closer to a family member that may need it. We move to look for economic solvency or look for a safer political climate. Many families are looking for cleaner places to live.

Systemically it is essential to understand how moving affects us unconsciously; it is crucial to be aware of this, and this is why.

The country where we are from is part of us. When we say goodbye to it, we are, in a way, moving away from our mother. Sometimes people do not allow themselves to progress because they feel they are unloyal to the country from where they come from, and this may put obstacles on the way to grow in the new land we call home.

We can do several things to help us consciously overcome our unconscious trip-ups. These are some easy steps to help bring light to this moment and support the transition.

-Hold space for your country. Feel sad, feel longing, and let yourself morn. Moving is a gain and a loss in many ways, too, it's ok to feel the yearning.

-Have a walk and have a conversation with yourself about it. Ask for permission to your land as if you were speaking to your mom. It gives you solace to talk to your ground as a relative; it is systemically.

-Acknowledge all the right things your land has given you and your family and honor it for what it is.

Once we come to terms with this consciously, we will be paving the way for a better start where ever we go, and by letting the past go, we can step into the future with a firm root, ready for the new.
